Resurface + Smooth

The Resurface + Smooth range from Glo Skin Beauty brings together exfoliating and resurfacing formulations selected by The London Road Clinic, Newark, for improving skin texture, accelerating cell turnover, and refining surface irregularities. These products are the at-home complement to professional resurfacing treatments — extending the effects of clinic peels, laser, and microneedling into the daily routine.

Skin texture is primarily determined by the rate of cell turnover and the quality of the desquamation process — the natural shedding of dead skin cells from the surface. When turnover slows (as it does with age, lifestyle factors, and hormonal changes), dead cells accumulate, creating a dull, rough texture and contributing to the appearance of pores, fine lines, and uneven tone.

The active ingredients in this range include glycolic acid, an AHA that dissolves the bonds between dead cells at the surface; lactic acid, a gentler AHA that also has humectant properties; salicylic acid, a BHA that penetrates pores; and enzymes from papaya and pumpkin, which are gentler alternatives suited to reactive skin. Each formulation is calibrated for home use — effective enough to produce results, safe enough for consistent application.

At London Road Clinic, resurfacing actives are recommended between professional treatments to maintain the rate of cell turnover achieved in the treatment room. Patients who use clinical-grade at-home exfoliants between peel appointments see significantly better long-term results than those who do not.

What is the difference between AHA and BHA exfoliants?

AHAs such as glycolic and lactic acid are water-soluble and work primarily at the skin surface to dissolve dead cell bonds and improve tone and texture. BHAs such as salicylic acid are oil-soluble and can penetrate into the pore lining — making them more effective for congestion, blackheads, and oily skin. Many clinical routines use both in different products or at different times of day.

How often should I exfoliate?

It depends on the strength of the formulation and your skin type. Low-concentration leave-on products can be used daily or every other day. Higher-concentration treatments should be used one to three times per week. Over-exfoliation shows as persistent redness, sensitivity, and a shiny, tight feeling. If in doubt, less is more.

Can I use exfoliating skincare alongside retinol?

It depends on the concentrations involved. Retinol and AHAs used simultaneously can cause irritation in some skin types. A common approach is to use AHA in the morning and retinol at night, or to alternate evenings. Introduce one active at a time and allow your skin to build tolerance before adding a second.
