Calm + Soothe
The Calm + Soothe range from Glo Skin Beauty brings together formulations designed to reduce visible redness, strengthen the skin barrier, and reduce the inflammatory triggers that make reactive skin more sensitive over time. These products are selected by The London Road Clinic, Newark, for use alongside treatment protocols and as standalone maintenance for sensitive and reactive skin types.
Reactive skin is not always a skin type — it is often a sign of a compromised barrier. When the stratum corneum is weakened by over-exfoliation, harsh actives, environmental exposure, or underlying conditions such as rosacea, the skin becomes more permissive to irritants and more prone to visible flushing and discomfort. Restoring barrier integrity is the first priority.
The active ingredients in this range include ceramides, which are the lipid molecules that hold the barrier together; bisabolol, a botanical anti-inflammatory derived from chamomile; niacinamide, which reduces vascular reactivity and supports barrier repair; and hyaluronic acid, which provides hydration without provoking the barrier.
These formulations avoid the common irritants that reactive skin cannot tolerate — synthetic fragrance, alcohol as a solvent, and high concentrations of exfoliating acids. They are appropriate for use after aesthetic treatments such as laser, microneedling, and peels, when the barrier is temporarily compromised and the skin needs active support rather than stimulation.
What is the difference between sensitive and reactive skin?
Sensitive skin is generally a constitutional predisposition — thin barrier, easily irritated, often genetic. Reactive skin can develop in any skin type when the barrier becomes compromised through over-treatment, environmental exposure, or irritating products. Both benefit from barrier-focused formulations, but reactive skin can often be resolved with the right approach.
Can I use these products if I have rosacea?
Yes. The formulations in this range avoid common rosacea triggers — synthetic fragrance, alcohol solvents, and strong exfoliants. Niacinamide and ceramides support vascular stability and barrier integrity. Treatment of rosacea is a clinical matter — speak to a clinician at London Road Clinic if you are managing an active flare.
Can calming skincare be used after in-clinic treatments?
Yes — this range is specifically appropriate for post-treatment recovery. After laser, microneedling, or chemical peels, the skin barrier is temporarily disrupted. Gentle, barrier-supportive formulations help reduce downtime and support healing. Avoid retinol and AHAs during the recovery window.
